Measles Outbreaks Spread Across North America
Measles cases are surging in North America, with over 2,500 infections and four deaths reported in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada. The outbreaks originated in Ontario, then spread to Texas, New Mexico, and Chihuahua, Mexico—partly linked to unvaccinated Mennonite communities. El Paso (38 cases) and Ciudad Juárez (14 cases) face cross-border transmission risks due to frequent travel. Health officials warn that vaccination rates below 95% enable outbreaks, with response costs reaching $50,000 per U.S. case. Michigan and Alberta also report rising infections, highlighting the virus’s rapid spread.
